Layoffs at AOL
YouTube's decision to hire more staff arrives the same day that the former Internet giant AOL plans to cut nearly 20% of its workforce following its acquisition of Huffington Post.
This new cut of the workforce is the second to be produced at the company since Tim Armstrong was named CEO in April 2009 as the company last year eliminated 2,300 jobs, which represented about third of its employees.
In an internal document sent to its workers, Armstrong acknowledges that these changes are "not easy", but argues that involve "the right choice" for the good in the long term company, brand and employees.
